Post Seapoint Martello Tower No.14 South Inaugurating the Cannon
Work days for me.
While the Seapoint Tower has been partly restored by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, it has only recently acquired a newly cast 24 pounder cannon.

On 10 July 2012 the cannon was getting its first test firing on location.

It had already been proof fired in England and declared fit for duty.

This inauguration was timed to coincide with the launching of a book on The Martello Towers of Dublin published jointly by the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown and Fingal County Councils.

Is the cannon intended to fire at noon each day? In other jurisdictions they sometimes use cannon twice daily to announces the time of day. :D

Nonex any chance that could explain / describe the uniforms in the pictures above, i.e. regiment, period in history and the likes.

It's great to see this type of thing happening here, will some of the people from the reenacting groups be wearing these uniforms
at the Salute show in August.

Paul thanks for posting the photos, very interesting stuff, any chance that you could arrange a visit to some of the towers for VCRAI members.

Nonex - many thanks for the great selection of photos - with your persimmon I'd like to send them to some friends of mine in CN and USA.

@ Mick - thanks for posting that YT clip! The look-onners certainly seem to have had a good time there, eh?

Best
